Compost Toilet and Bathing Area
A major component to improving sanitation is providing toilets and shower areas. The easiest access and most affordable way to provide clean water is to build a well. BUT if wells are built before toilets and showers then there is a very real possibility that the well will become contaminated with human waste, dirt, and soap. RVF understands that we must first build compost toilets and shower areas for families in need, then down the road we can build community wells.
When deciding where to allocate our resources we have decided to help single mothers and their children first. This is because it is usually most difficult for these women to gather income, the money mothers receive almost always goes to their children's needs. We are focusing on single mothers who are single because they left abuses relationships. We want to encourage women to leave when they live in danger - plus, removing kids from this situation helps with their psyche and hopefully means less people will be beat in the future as kids learn that knocking around your spouse is actually not acceptable and should not be the norm.
The toilet/shower structures RVF builds uses only local labor and local resources so all the money will trickle into the local economy and provide jobs to laborers, brick makers, stone-crushers (that make concrete), and forest goers (that provide wood), etc.
Through generous donations, RVF builds compost toilets and shower combos for single mothers and their children.
